Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or direct message is retained as needed to answer it. We keep that communication within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on pages
- The device's IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and our analytics services help combine traffic data, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how parts of the site work.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Sending a search request to the selected partner
- Measuring which pages are useful
- Operating and improving site performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Benton County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes routing information for Benton County Sheriff, the local courts, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation systems, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy. We do not control its retention or disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff, court, state-agency, legal-aid, or outside search websites. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks placing ads on the site
How We Protect Your Data
Standard security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet-connected system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such data is identified, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights over personal data. Tennessee's Public Records Act, T.C.A. §§10-7-503 and 10-7-504, governs access to state and local government records, while T.C.A. §38-6-120 addresses TBI criminal-history functions. Those public-record laws do not turn this private site into a government custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request access to personal data held about you
- Ask that inaccurate data be corrected
- Seek deletion where the law permits it
- Object to certain forms of processing
